This is one of my favourite lines from "Thr Good, The Bad and the Ugly", Sergio Leone's 1966 spaghetti western film (incidentally, I was born in 1966 as well...).
It basically describes a very sensible approach to most undertakings in one's life. When there is work to be done, work. When there is a person to love, love. When there is time to play, play. When there is time to sleep, sleep. And so on. Do not mix the activities. Yes, you may be a reneissance person with thousands of various interests - this is perfectly OK. But when you get involved in one of them, do not allow yourself to be distracted, just devote yourself completely to what you are doing. And when you are done, move to something else.
Yes, you need a breath. You need to sharpen the axe before you cut down the next tree. That is fine too. Just make sure that when you are sharpening the axe, you are not trying to eat your lunch at the same time. Just keep sharpening the axe.
